The Town of Edgewood is one of New Mexico’s newest incorporated communities; it has only officially been in existence since 1999. Edgewood is the geographic hub and largest community in the greater East Mountain region. Interesting fact, it is also at the mid-point of Historic Route 66 in New Mexico (the entire Mother Road runs from Chicago to Los Angeles).
As the Town‘s name implies, Edgewood is located at the edge of the woods in the Sandia Mountain foothills. Edgewood is literally “where the mountains meet the plains” and is located 20 miles east of Albuquerque along Historic Route 66 and Interstate 40, at the crossroad with NM State Road 344. Home to some families for many generations, is it also popular with families who commute for their professional life, but prefer the large lots sizes, outdoor activities, and amazing views available on this side of the Sandia Mountains.
The town encompasses approximately 44 square miles of property located in southern Santa Fe, eastern Bernalillo, and northwestern Torrance Counties. The Town’s commercial district includes retail shopping, restaurants, medical, professional, travel, and equine services. This tiny town is also home to two locally-owned small businesses that were voted “New Mexico’s Best,” one for their breakfast burrito and another for its pizza! As the regional hub, Edgewood is where you’ll also find familiar national brands including Walmart Super Center, Comfort Inn & Suites, Smith’s, Tractor Supply, and Walgreen’s.
Truly an exceptional outdoor living community, Edgewood has a wide range of options. The equestrian community and Town’s Parks & Recreation committee have worked to help establish a series of outstanding trails and an Equestrian Arena. A number of area businesses even have hitching posts on-site to truly accommodate equestrian living. The wide-open spaces and trails in and around Edgewood provide ample opportunities to satisfy Hikers, Mountain Bikers, Cross country skiers, snowshoe enthusiasts, and geo-caching explorers. Golfers will enjoy the beauty and challenge of the 27-hole course at nearby Paa-ko Ridge; and aviation lovers appreciate the ability to fly-in at Sandia Airpark in Edgewood and taxi to their own hanger and home.
Wildlife West Nature Park is a rescued-wildlife refuge, state-of-art native wildlife zoo, and entertainment venue. The Park hosts a variety of events from May through September each year, as well as its famous Chuckwagon BBQ Supper & Show – traditional meal followed by energetic musical performances.
Single Action Shooting Society’s Founders’ Ranch is home to “End of Trail” where the annual World Championships of Cowboy Action Shooting are held each June, as well as several major events throughout the year– all celebrate western heritage and the heyday of the Old West. Open year-round, Founders Ranch is a world-class shooting sports facility with instruction and services available on-site.
Edgewood is a growing town that preserves and applauds its small town heritage. Each year the town celebrates its heritage with two major events: “Cowboy Days” two weeks of eclectic fun (melodrama, goat yoga, trail rides, community supper) and festivities (car show, cowboy action shooting world championships, music & brews nite, wildlife festival, and chuckwagon show) throughout the community held in late June. And, “Route 66 Run, Rally, and Rock” (parade, games, entertainment, vendors) held in early August in the heart of Edgewood. The community is host to summertime outdoor movies and water play days, as well as a summer and Fall brew fests, the annual “Bustin’ Clays” sporting clays match in September, tree lighting at Christmastime, and East Egg Hunt in Spring. There’s plenty of unexpected fun too, such as an MMA match, Celtic Festival, and Kite Festival. Always something happening.
Edgewood provides a wonderful environment in which to live, work, or own a business. With a growing economy and regional population, and strong transportation infrastructure. Edgewood offers convenient access to the Albuquerque and Santa Fe markets.
